Founder

Namaste! I’m Sharmila Shyangtan, a proud member of the Tamang indigenous community of Nepal. My journey combines academic pursuits with a deep connection to my heritage. Currently, I’m finalizing my PhD in Development and Sustainability at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand. My research focuses on empowering communities, particularly through education and sustainable practices.

I’m a grateful mother of two wonderful sons, Kalsang and Kalden. I reside in Panauti, a charming town rich in cultural heritage, located 32 km southeast of Kathmandu, Nepal.

My goal is to provide exceptional satisfaction to our valued customers through our products and services. I believe in the principles of honesty, transparency, and professionalism in all my endeavors.

Please feel free to reach out to me at sharmila@himalayahandicrafts.com for any inquiries or feedback regarding our offerings. Your thoughts are invaluable to us!

Thank you for your support! Together, we can create more job opportunities, inspire creativity, and empower individuals—especially women—through skill development in Nepal.

I hold an MPhil in Development Studies from Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED). My dissertation, titled “Lived Experience of Tamang Women in Higher Education: A Narrative Inquiry,” reflects my deep commitment to amplifying the voices and experiences of Tamang women in academia.

I am passionate about environmental issues and advancing women’s access to higher education.
